Lara Herscovitch: listen

The Day the Jury Got Away

(Lara Herscovitch)
2006-01-01
Who still believes justice is blind
These 13 jurors will not get a chance to decide
Cause they settled the case, left us all wanting more
They said “thanks for your service” and showed us the door

(chorus)
I made a motion and objected
We were supposed to have been selected
It was the day the jury got away
I knew if I had my chance
Could’ve made those defendants dance
It was the day the jury got away

We are jurors 1 through 3, 5 and 6
Numbers 4, 7 and 8 had to go pick up their kids
If Connecticut’s courthouse does not want us around
We’ll find our own crime scenes; ‘cause injustice is all around

We got our caseload quickly filled, chicken v. egg, Jack v. Jill
It was the day the jury got away
All the king’s horses v. the wall; who was to blame for Humpty’s fall
It was the day the jury got away

There were portly plaintiffs from eating all those freedom fries
Others on the phone & highway spilled hot coffee on their thighs
Lots of people in pinstripes, fingers pointing up and down, left and right
Trial times complicated because they only come out at night

Searching scapegoats and then playing the victim once again
It was the day the jury got away
Religiously following their script: “he was the one who started it”
It was the day the jury got away
Their past revealed through years of fog, started with homework and a hungry dog
It was the day the jury got away…
