Lara Herscovitch: listen
Take Your Time
(Lara Herscovitch)
2002-11-01
Torching past pages of herself, watching them curl up in flame
Untangling knots of how it all felt, somehow now nothing’s the same
Tomorrow, in perfect suspense, poor poetry all up in smoke
Scrambled sorrow starts to make sense, catharsis now ashes and tentative hope
(chorus)
Take your time; some days the best course is to resign
Take your time; any day now you’re bound to be hitting your stride
I hear you come bounding downstairs, unsteady in your new big kid shoes
You ask what would I like to do, I remind you it’s your turn to choose
This time of year I plainly see baby birds falling away
I find it so hard to believe -- that will be you someday
(chorus)
Take your time; the years go by so fast, you should soak up the sunshine
Take your time; and I’ll try to teach you to avoid life’s landmines
But what if dreams don’t come true; what if words never rhyme
What if songs aren’t sung; what if you’re never mine
We’ve worked so hard to get “ahead”, keep the treadmill moving we must
If we deserve better than this then who deserves us
Mondays end the weekend dream with neckties and stockings and doubt
How in god’s name did we end up mainstream; how in god’s name do we break out
(chorus)
Take your time; sometimes there’s something to glean from the grind
Take your time; you just might learn how to turn on that dime
Take your time…
